A producer, in
one form or
another.

For most of my career I've worked as a producer, in one form or another. The setting has changed over the years; the underlying work has not. Take something ambitious and get very different people to build it together. Coordination matters, but where I add the most is execution: making sure the result actually gets delivered.

I began in the cultural sector, producing events and shows. I later co-founded and scaled two companies in the China e-commerce and data space, WebshopinChina.com and Chaoly, helping European brands establish themselves in a market and digital landscape they did not yet understand. Today I lead IT projects at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where the real challenge is rarely the technology itself, but whether the organisation actually adopts it.

Increasingly, my attention goes to what AI and new technology genuinely offer: where they help, and just as importantly, how we use them responsibly. I'm interested in both the possibilities and the compliance side, and I don't think organisations can afford to focus on only one.

Alongside my work, I'm training to become a sake sommelier, a discipline that rewards patience and careful attention. Outside all of that I build small products, the kind of things I wanted to exist and made well enough to be useful.
